Fabulous Gay Tunes Vol. 1

Official Toronto gay pride album for 1999

Produced by Chris Michael

There is, a sense of fun and irreverence appropriate to Pride Week bursting forth from the best of the diverse material here - particularly on such cuts as Brother Love Canal's ebullient, jump-up house version of Joni Mitchell's "Both Sides Now", Title's giddily percolating dance number "Oh Yeah", John Alcorn's jazz-blues interpretation of Led Zep's "Whole Lotta Love" and "dive guy" Deian McBryde's lounge meets disco swinger "My Heart Belongs To Daddy".  Any collection as eclectic as this is bound to be uneven, and the bouncy top half is definitely a lot more enjoyable. But it's probably safe to drag out the "something for everyone" cliche and to suggest you pick this one up at Toronto HMV stores or on the street during tomorrow's Gay Pride Parade.  After all, a portion of each sale goes to the Pride Committee and the Canadian AIDS Society. Plus, you get a free condom with every disc. A happy Pride Day to all. -- The Toronto Star
